A trumpet fanfare to welcome our new Director of Music Ministries, Ethan Neal. Ethan is one of those people who come under the heading: Gifted. He plays trumpet, organ, piano, has a stunning baritone voice, conducts, composes, arranges, and that’s just his musical side. He’s definitely impressive for a guy whose work ethic was, in part, formed at the county fair where he escorted cows and pigs around the show ring and picked up a cache of ribbons in the process.

We all deeply appreciate Karen Murphy for the baked goodies she brings to coffee hour. Yet, her day-to-day job is one that most of us couldn’t imagine handling and her physical endurance is best measured in miles, lots of them.

Senior Warden John Spain always had two parallel careers until retirement. It’s also safe to say that he and wife Bonnie have a unique living room. Most folks use the room for housing a sofa, a comfy chair, or two, a small table, lamps, etc. It’s a different kind of staging area in the Spain household and has more keys than Buckingham Palace.

Julia Walker has been a mainstay of the church for 20 years. A love of music shaped her future early in a household where “someone was always playing something.” Today, she is the keeper of the flame when it comes to the gracious art of note writing. And her missives aren’t just sent to church folks and friends. A recent one to a grieving queen was appreciated.

For nearly three decades, Marianne Bailey has occupied the organ bench at All Saints. But her talents and skills aren’t confined to music. If you ever find yourself in a dicey situation, Marianne is definitely the person you want in your corner.

Dorothy Powell began attending All Saints in the mid-1960s, which probably means she wins the Longest Attendance Award.* Longevity and loyalty are this Volunteer Extraordinaire’s watchwords. Just ask Radio Reading Services, Pro Kids, the Western Southern Open tennis tournament and several other organizations who depend on her. That includes All Saints, of course. [*Challengers speak up now.]

Parishioner Tony Nagygyor is fairly new to All Saints but has already established himself as an indispensable part of the congregation. For this 24-year-old, it’s just right thing to do. He’s an avid biker, hiker and doing all the renovation himself on the 100-year-old house he bought last year. And wait until you read what Tony accomplished at age 19!

All Saints Senior Warden Tom Carter has spent a good deal of his life with his feet off the ground. That doesn’t make him a frivolous fellow, merely a guy who’s walked on more roofs in the past 40 years than anyone you’re likely to meet. He’s also an avid sports fan, but his most unusual claim to fame . . . well, if you don’t already know, you’ll be amazed.
